Homes near public transit retain value better

Homes near public transit retained their value better during the recession than their counterparts in auto-dependent areas, according to a May article in Urban Land magazine. The article documents a study conducted by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and the National Association of Realtors, which measured home values between 2006 and 2011, a period when they declined substantially overall.  Residential property located near public transportation with frequent service performed 42 percent better, on average, than properties not served by transit.
