Marta Schantz is the senior vice president for the Urban Land Institute’s Greenprint Center for Building Performance, a worldwide alliance of real estate owners committed to improving the environmental performance of the industry – reducing carbon, and increasing building value. Recent focus areas range from City/Real Estate Partnerships for Climate Policy, to Embodied Carbon in Real Estate, to Class B/C Office Energy Efficiency. Before her time at ULI, Marta consulted to utilities and real estate at Waypoint Energy, performed federal energy consulting at Booz Allen Hamilton, and conducted energy project cost analyses at the US Department of Energy. Marta is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a LEED Green Associate and a Fitwel Ambassador.

Kim joined JBG SMITH in October 2019 as Vice President, Sustainability. She has over 20 years of experience in sustainability, climate change resilience, environmental policy, green building rating systems, regenerative design, specific to the built environment. She is leading the strategy, development, coordination, and execution of JBG SMITH’s sustainability initiatives across all business units. Throughout her career, Ms. Pexton has been responsible for the development of operational programs that yield demonstrated sustainability results. Prior to joining JBG SMITH, Ms. Pexton was a Director at Paladino and Company, an internationally recognized sustainability and green building consulting firm. Earlier in her career, Ms. Pexton held roles at HITT Contracting, James G. Davis Construction, and Heitman. Ms. Pexton earned a Master of Architecture from Catholic University. She is a is a LEED Fellow and an Environmental Leader Top 100 Honoree. She is also a past chairwoman of the board for the USGBC National Capital Region chapter (2006 – 2009). In addition, Ms. Pexton is an international published author and an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University.

Jennifer Miller’s experience in higher education, historic preservation and sustainability projects has led her to love the process of design. She is particularly fond of the relationships derived from solution-focused, user-conscious collaboration. Her favorite projects involve reimagining the use of a space while highlighting the original expression of the building. In her time away from the office, Jennifer enjoys running, traveling and getting involved in her hometown of Speedway.

As Deputy Director, Abbey Brands oversees multiple factions of the Department of Public Works (DPW), from the city’s sustainability efforts to DPW’s IT and data programs. In previous roles with the city, Brands managed internal and external communications efforts, as well as executive IT initiatives on behalf of the city and county. Most notably, she helped develop and design the modern, service-focused Indy.gov website, negotiated lower eCommerce rates for citizens, and implemented Salesforce platforms across multiple agencies and departments. Brands received a bachelor’s degree from IUPUI in Indianapolis. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her partner, their two cats, and restoring her early 1900s home.
