From the Director's Desk: Gratitude for ULI
ULI Indiana director Jen Mitchen shares why she's grateful for the ULI network.
“It’s not going in our yard, Russ. It’s going in our living room.”
– Clark W. Griswold
Not only is Christmas Vacation arguably one of the best movies of all time, but I like to think of Clark Griswold as my holiday inspiration. Clark, above all else, had immense love for his family and friends, pride in his work and a positive outlook on life. But most of all, he dreamed big!
I have to say. It reminds me of you… our ULI members. Even in times of economic uncertainty, you are still planning for the future. You don’t hide your heads in the sand when faced with a challenge. Instead, you work together, with colleagues, friends, competitors and sometimes even rivals… because the end result is worth all of the blood, sweat and tears! Sometimes it takes a different perspective than yours to accomplish amazing results. Just like when Ellen figures out that the light switch in the garage controls the thousands of tiny little lights.
Your ULI Indiana Management Committee has been hard at work planning our signature annual Trends event on Jan. 26! Huge thank you to Michelle Freeman of Browning Day for taking the lead on this event for 2023. The lineup of speakers and new networking opportunities will knock your socks off! We anticipate a full house, so please be sure to register early!
If you haven’t taken the time to review the 2023 Emerging Trends in Real Estate report yet, take a look. I think the opening quote in the report best sums it up. “The short-term risks are real, and I’m not making light of any of them. But if you have the long view, I don’t think it’s time to panic.”
As you navigate the crazy holiday season, I urge you to channel your inner Clark Griswold. Don’t be a Todd or Margo. Drink the eggnog! Enjoy time with family! Kidnap your boss! Just kidding, but I hope each and every one of you has a wonderful holiday season. Cheers to 2023!
– Jen Mitchen
